As years went by I finally stumbled upon what I was looking for, Greg Roskopf’s Muscle Activation Techniques, or MAT for short. I learned that they have tools for trainers like me who wanted to go deeper and really help our clients address the weakness they had in their bodies that was negatively affecting their ability to do exercise or play their sport like golf, tennis, running, etc.. Eventually I met at MAT Specialist who took me through an initial session. I was in my mid 20’s and I was just begging to feel that my body was starting to compensate and feel like it was beginning to break down. I was noticing stress in certain body parts during my workouts that I never had before. I had knee injury in high school football and coinciding surgery when I was 19 and my knee was never quite the same since and recently my left foot started to turn out when I walked which was annoying to me because I know if it wasn't resolved it would effect my later on in my life.
During my first MAT session I was amazed out how the Specialist assessed my body and discovered specific asymmetries in how my body moved that I never knew existed. Then using very specific muscles tests idenfified which muscles were weak and through some techniques where she pushed on specific attachment sites transformed them back into strengths immediately which I noticed when she did the muscle tests again after she applied the techniques. But the end of it my entire body felt great, my knee felt like it was when I was teen-ager and best of all when I was walking to my car I was astonished when I noticed my left foot was straight and no longer compensating and turning out like it was before.
In that moment I realized I needed to pursue becoming a MAT Specialist myself so I could help others to resolve their musculoskeletal issues that was making exercise hard to do.
